Making international payments can often be difficult, confusing and expensive. These days there are several options available online that try to make this easier, but it is sometimes to know which to trust.
What is the best option?
When transferring money to Thailand, we recommend using Wise. Wise, formerly known as TransferWise, is a popular online money transfer service that allows you to send and receive money in different currencies at a low cost.
Unlike PayPal and many of the other well known money transfer services, Wise transfers money using current exchange rates with no additional mark-ups or hidden fees. All fees are clearly displayed up-front and are usually cheaper than the standard ATM fees here in Khao Lak.
Why use Wise to transfer money to Thailand?
1. Competitive Exchange Rates: Wise provides users with highly competitive exchange rates, often much better than traditional banks and money transfer services. By offering the mid-market exchange rate—without any hidden fees or markups—Wise ensures that you get the most value for your money. This is particularly beneficial when sending larger amounts, as even a small difference in exchange rates can make a significant impact.
2. Low and Transparent Fees: Wise keeps things simple by charging a small, transparent fee, which is clearly displayed upfront. Unlike traditional banks that often add hidden charges, Wise ensures that you know exactly what you’re paying for. The transparency in fees allows you to make informed decisions and plan your transfers more effectively.
3. Fast and Convenient Transfers: With Wise, transferring money to Thailand is not only cost-effective but also remarkably fast. While traditional bank transfers can take several days to complete, Wise offers speedy transfers, usually within one to two business days. Moreover, the process can be initiated and monitored online, from the comfort of your own home, without the need for physical visits to the bank or transfer agencies
4. Multi-Currency Account: Wise allows you to hold and manage money in multiple currencies, including Thai Baht (THB). By opening a multi-currency account with Wise, you can avoid unnecessary currency conversions and save on additional fees every time you send money to Thailand. This feature is particularly useful if you have recurring financial obligations in Thailand or if you frequently transfer money between different currencies.

Can I use Resolute or PayPal?
Unfortunately, we are currently unable payments via Resolute or PayPal. Both Resolute and PayPal are often much more expensive (for both you and us) than Wise when it comes to transferring money internationally.
They have also had several issues over recent years connecting with Thai banks which limited their operations in Thailand significantly.
Also, Resolute do not currently offer business services in Thailand.
Can I pay with cash or card?
Yes, if it is not possible to pay online, cash and card payments can be made in our office. We are located on Nang Thong Beach Road, next to the Kokotel Resort.
However, it is important to remember that we have only very limited availability for our tours, and your booking can only be confirmed once we receive your payment. Therefore, we will always advise that it is best to book and pay in advance to avoid disappointment.
Also, it is worth remembering that many shops, restaurants and food stalls in town do not accept online or card payments. When it comes to shopping and eating in Thailand cash is king! Those who do will charge an extra 3% for the transaction fee. ATM machines will charge a 200-250 Baht withdrawal fee. These fees are on top of whatever currency conversion rates are already being charged by your own bank. So it is a good idea to keep your cash for when you need it.
