After lunch there is plenty of time to relax and enjoy the beautiful beaches before heading out for the afternoon snorkeling.

The final stop of the day is in the Moken sea gypsy village. The Moken people have been living a semi-nomadic lifestyle in the Andaman sea for thousands of years. Since the tsunami in 2004, many Moken families have chosen to abandon their traditional Kabang houseboats, and come to live on the Surin Islands more permanently.

Traditionally hunter-gatherers, the Moken people now live in wooden hoses on the beach. As you walk through the village, our guides will explain more about the fascinating Moken lifestyle, and the way they have adapted perfectly to life at sea.

At the end of the day it is time to head back to the pier, where the minibus will be waiting to take you back to your hotel.

Mo Ko Surin Islands National Park, Thailand

Nestled gracefully in the Andaman Sea, just off the coast of Khao Lak, Thailand, the Surin Islands form a stunning archipelago comprising Koh Surin Nua, Koh Surin Tai, Koh Ri, Koh Khai, and Koh Klang. Together, they collectively create the Surin Islands National Park—a protected marine area that safeguards the islands’ pristine beauty and ecological diversity.

These islands, with their picture-perfect beaches adorned by powdery white sands and surrounded by turquoise waters, offer an unparalleled escape into untouched tropical paradise. Beneath the surface, a world of wonder awaits snorkelers and divers, as vibrant coral reefs host a kaleidoscope of colors and exotic marine life, contributing to the rich biodiversity of the Surin Islands National Park.

Adding a cultural dimension to this natural haven are the Moken sea gypsies, the indigenous people of the Surin Islands. For generations, they have crafted a unique way of life intimately connected to the sea. Engaging with the Moken people provides visitors with insights into their traditional practices, folklore, and the symbiotic relationship they share with the surrounding marine environment.

Recognizing the ecological significance of the Surin Islands, the Thai government designated the area as a national park in 1981. This protective status aims to preserve the islands’ natural beauty, ensuring the delicate balance of the marine ecosystem and safeguarding the cultural heritage of the Moken people.

Embark on a journey to the Surin Islands, where every corner reveals the wonders of nature and the captivating stories of the Moken people. Immerse yourself in the pristine landscapes, vibrant coral reefs, and rich cultural heritage that make the Surin Islands a destination beyond imagination.
